Demonstrating a new concept in emergency service layout, Cuyahoga General Hospital recently opened a new emergency service utilizing a "perimeter" corridor concept. Patients are triaged and then access their exam room for a perimeter circulation corridor.  Staff functions are based in an inner work corridor.  Development of this concept was achieved in existing building, a significant accomplishment for the design team.  One of the advantages of this design concept is that it allows for future growth and expansion while maintaining the basic organizational concept.
