M.D. Anderson Cancer Center One of the premier cancer care institutions in the country, M.D. Anderson, recently developed plans for two major additions totaling over $250 million in cost: the Bertner Street Addition and the Clinic Services Additions. Originally retained by Stone, Marraccini and Patterson, Frank Zilm led the programming and planning effort for over 100,000 sf of construction, including a new 30-room surgery suite, a radiation therapy department with 16 linear accelerators, along with segments of clinical pathology and diagnostic imaging. FZA was then retained by HKS to lead the programming of the Clinic Services Building, including the programming of the ambulatory care clinics, a breast consultation center, and related support services. Working with the medical, nursing, and administrative staff led to innovative concepts to integrate ambulatory patient support among departments, improvement in utilization of operating rooms, and the development of a modular, adaptable clinic module. The planning for ambulatory care included the reorganization of patient care into disease-site, multidisciplinary clinics, with associated diagnostic and treatment services. Existing and proposed spaces were developed into a comprehensive layout, with common staff and educational support areas on each floor. Visit SMP's web-page at Welcome To SMP |
